New Long, Dark Hair! (Extensions)

As previously mentioned, I said I would be dynig my hair extensions - well here is the finished look!

Photobucket

As you can see, I kept the ombre ends of my real hair to create some bottom hilights. From the pic it looks like they are only in a chunk on your left side, but the other side is just behind my head =)

Here are the extensions before I dyed them:

Photobucket

{Don't mind the cat at the top. She always wants to be near to the things I put on my bed. Laundry mostly, and in this case the hair extension. I think she thinks they are her new friends}

They were a really nice dirty blonde, with an assortment of highlights and low lights in them. There are four bands of clip in extensions above - two wide pieces for the back and partial sides, and two narrower strips for the sides. This human hair set cost me about $200 five years ago - I only wore them for special occasions, so I was able to keep them in good condition.

Photobucket

Here is what they looked like when I'd wear them with my blonde hair:

I've been brunette for over a year now, the longest I've stayed dark for as long as I can remember. I usually always miss being blonde, and end up going back, but I think I'm brunette for good this time. So I decided that until my hair grows long, I may as well dye my extensions dark for special occasions, too.

I used two boxes of the Clairol Nice 'n Easy in 120 Natural Dark Brown.

It seemed like the closest to my own natural hair color.

The dye was super easy to prepare.

After I'd mixed the color up, I laid the strips of extensions down one at a time in the bottom of the bath tub and applied the dye down the length of the extensions, making sure they were fully coated.

Once all four strips were saturated with dye, I laid them out on tin foil for 45 minutes to process.

Once they were done processing I ran them under the bathtub faucet one by one to rinse the dye out. Once they were rinsed, I applied the conditioning treatment that came with the dye and gently combed them through with a wide toothed comb. I then laid them on a towel to air dry. I never blow dry my extensions as it pulls out hair with each stroke of the brush/hands as you are drying.

It took about three hours for the extensions to fully dry.

I styled and curled my own hair as usual, then added in the extensions and curled them the same to blend in. They are just a fraction darker than my own dark hair, but over all I'm pleased with the result.

Tips:

-Make sure it's 100% human hair you're dying. It sounds creepy having someone else's hair on your head, I know, but synthetic hair won't change color, it will be ruined the minute it's wet and unable to be restyled.

-If you are purchasing extensions for the first time, try and get Italian hair extensions, as in, from an Italian head. They are expensive, but known to be the best, and easiest to work with.

-Lay tin foil down on the bottom of the bath tub while you are coloring the extensions so you don't get globs of staining dye all over the bottom of the tub.

-Try not to dye the hair more than a couple times (I won't dye mine again) as every dying will weaken the hair and cause more to fall out.

-When they start looking ratty - throw them out and get new ones! There's nothing worse than ratty hair extensions on a girl.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Day 04 - Describe Your Thoughts on Religion

Eeek. Isn't this one of the two things you are never supposed to talk about? Religion and Politics, there you go. There's nothing more foreboding of arguments, fights, and heck, world wars, than opening up the religion can of worms, so I'll keep this short and sweet. I'll describe my beliefs and throw in a couple thoughts and be done with it.

***

Okay, so I'm Agnostic. In case you don't know what that means, I'll tell you. The dictionary defines Agnostic as:

–noun
1.
a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as
god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
2.
a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.

Basically I don't claim to know the where, how, or what of how we came into existence.

I'm not atheist, as I'm not doubting there is a God, but I'm also not claiming to know for a fact there is.

I grew up in a Christian family, and I know the Old Testament and New Testament fairly well. Growing up, I went to Sunday School, participated in Christian extra curricular activities, and went to Christian summer camp for many years. As I got older, the things I'd been learning weren't adding up/computing in my mind and I eventually made the personal choice to cease with what I'd been taught in favor of non-religion. (Or would Agnosticism be classified as a religion in itself? Probably not, as it carries no beliefs for or against a higher power.)

This being said, I value and appreciate all forms of religion out there. I don't look down on people who don't share the same thoughts of religion as me. I know they are just different, and differences should be respected, not demeaned.

What I like about religion:
-It provides structure for people in a very unstructured world.
-It can give people meaning and hope to move forward in times of crisis. A "positive escape" so to speak. It carries many people through extremely difficult times in life, in a healthier and more positive way then say, drugs or alcohol would.
-Most religions carry a morally sound code of ethics that it's believers are inclined to follow. The Ten Commandments and the like of different belief systems certainly never hurt anyone.

What I dislike about religion:
-how it segregates people
-that it can conflict with scientific progress and the higher education of society. (Happens less and less nowadays as science and religion are increasingly merging, BUT - this progression is still very new and "left sided" for some sects.)
-it's cause for all major world wars throughout the history of mankind

So there you go!

I usually like to end my posts with a question for my readers. Only respond with your thoughts on religion if you feel like it; I know it can be dicey. I'm just following the 30 day blog challenge! One of the reasons I decided to do this challenge was because I felt the questions were very intriguing, and would show a lot more about who I am.

Day 03 - Thoughts on Drugs and Alcohol

The plight of human kind!

Drugs scare me/gross me out. Weed smells like sweet garbage to me, or a skunk, which is something I don't want people to associate me with. Pipes gross me out, how they get passed around with everyone and their dog's mouth coming in contact with them.

The hard stuff, coke, heroin and the like, are enough to give me nightmares, just thinking about what they can do to people is enough to keep me away for good.

Alcohol - oh alcohol. I'm from a longggg line of heavy Irish drinkers on my paternal side, and (not that that should be an excuse - there are plenty Irish who DON'T drink) my penchant taste for beer and wine does have to be kept in check. It's been a learning process throughout the years, (especially in my teens/early twenties), and I'm still learning, but I always have to go in to drinking with my wits about me - if I completely let go and open the flood gates, I'm carried far, far away and the results are seldom ducky. I recently did a cleanse for the month of January and it was great at getting my system back to how it should be - getting rid of any cravings, and just allowing me to fully enjoy a single glass of wine or beer as opposed to a few every weekend. I'll have to keep an eye on my drinking for my whole life, it's just the way it is for me, but if it helps me live a healthier life, I don't mind taking extra steps at bettering myself.
One final piece of advice:
{Drinking & Driving: You're playing Russian Roulette and it's only a matter of time before you're caught, kill someone, smash up your car, or kill yourself. Just don't do it.}

What are your thoughts on D & A?

January 2011 - Shopping: Kawaii

So what is "Kawaii". It is literally translated as "lovability", "cuteness" or "adorableness". Since the 1970s it has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance, behavior, and mannerisms. (Do you see "Hello Kitty" in the wedding gown?)

Some of these elements can be seen in the following:
1.Pikachu, a character from Pokémon, adorns the side of three All Nippon Airways passenger jets.
2. All 47 prefectures have cute mascot characters
3. Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty and other similarly cute characters run the Sanrio Puroland theme park in Tokyo.
4. Cute can be also used to describe a specific fashion sense[8][9] of an individual, and generally includes clothing that appears to be made for young children, apart from the size, or clothing that accentuates the cuteness of the individual wearing the clothing. Ruffles and pastel colors are commonly (but not always) featured, and accessories often include toys or bags featuring anime characters. See Japanese Street Fashion.

This is the link to "All Things Kawaii". There are over 500 sites listed here.

Some of my favorites:
acrylicana - Artists web site of cute illustrations and art. She sells handmade jewelry, accessories and more. I love her necklaces.

Poupee girl - create a fashionable avatar and post photos of clothes and accessories to share with others.

My Asian Fashion - A whole community for those who love Asian fashion

pixel girl presents - All sort of pretty icons and images to use on your desktop and mobile phone. Iphone images for us girly girls!

Another fun thing to do is to google "Kawaii TV". the program covers everything from fashion to culture in Tokyo. There are lots of segments available online

MADONNA IS NOW OLD

Who would think that Madonna would look like this right now. Many thought that she won't go old because she is already an icon in the Hollywood industry and in the world. But the clock moves and the beauty that Madonna has before is no longer existing right now. Madonna is already 52 and a mother of four children. Even though her beauty is no longer with her, Madonna still can dance pretty well.
